The Export-Import Bank of China (EximBank), one of the world’s leading lenders, has provided credit support to 46 transport infrastructure projects in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries by early 2014, according to official Chinese data.

With preferential loans from China, 24 highways, three railways, one port, three airports and nine bridges have been built, rebuilt or renovated in ASEAN countries, says EximBank, which plays a critical role in the growth of China’s external trade.

In Cambodia where most places were not connected by railways, the bank’s lending has facilitated the country to put in place its national rail system, building railways of about 2,173 kilometers.

The Second Penang Bridge in Malaysia, the longest sea-crossing bridge in Southeast Asia, and the Luang Prabang Airport in Laos have also been provided credit by the EximBank.

The new Chinese leadership of President Xi Jinping has placed great emphasis on deepening economic links between China and ASEAN. The two sides are also trying to upgrade the existing China-ASEAN Free Trade Area agreement.

Beijing’s increased attention to the neighborhood is in the backdrop of the much-hyped Asia Pivot by the US, a policy aimed at re-invigorating American military and economic influence in the fast-growing region.

Meanwhile, the EximBank, which is also the biggest lender to Africa, will account for almost 80 per cent of a $1 trillion financing for the continent announced by the Chinese government up till 2025.

Indigenous children surprise travelers to Taiwan with flash mob

A flash mob organized by members of one of Taiwan's indigenous tribes surprised travelers at Taipei Railway Station on Sunday with traditional songs and dances and the traditional costumes they wore.

Many spectators were touched by the angel-like voices of the members of the flash mob, all Puyuma children.

"They made me tear up within five seconds after they started," one passenger at the station told reporters from Public Television Service.

Asked about what they sang, a member of the flash mob said the songs extolled the beauty of their land in Taitung County in southeastern Taiwan and the return of brave Puyuma warriors from battles they won.

The performance was in fact part of a charity program initiated by the Hotel Royal Chihpen in Taitung to help indigenous children residing in remote mountainous parts of the county live their dreams.

Most members of the flash mob, comprised of a dancing troupe and a choir, had never been outside Taitung due to their secluded living environment, the organizer of the show said.

With assistance from the Taitung County Tourism Bureau and Uni Air, the indigenous children took their first-ever flight to Taipei to show urban dwellers in Taipei the beauty of Taitung through song and dance, the organizer said.

The Puyama, one of 14 indigenous tribes in Taiwan, reside mainly in Taitung County.

A bank worker has been found guilty of murdering his wife in a bid to stop her revealing his homosexuality.

Jasvir Ram Ginday, 29, from Walsall, attacked Varkha Rani at their home with a metal pipe from a vacuum cleaner.

He strangled her then burnt her body in a garden incinerator, telling a neighbour he had set fire to rubbish, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.

Ginday had struggled "being a gay man in a straight world," Judge John Warner told the court during his summing up.

The jury of seven women and five men took about 17 hours to find Ginday guilty of murder after a three-week trial. He will be sentenced later on Friday.

Ginday, of Victory Lane, had flown to attend his arranged wedding to Varkha, 24, from India, at a lavish ceremony attended by up to 700 guests last year.

But he had told a friend he was attracted to men as early as 2008, said prosecutor Deborah Gould.

West Midlands Police said Ginday was frequenting gay bars and having relationships with men around the time of his engagement to Varkha.

In August, six months after the ceremony, Varkha arrived in the UK to join her husband and live together in the matrimonial home.

But on 12 September, university graduate and IT specialist Ginday - who had been preparing to take up a job with the Financial Ombudsman Service in London - had a row with his new wife.

During the trial, Ginday had alleged his wife had threatened to "expose" him as homosexual to family and friends, after apparently discovering "compromising" material on an iPad and iPhone.

He told the jury that his wife had come at him in the bedroom, "thrashing", and he was "trying to calm her down".

The pair ended up on the floor, at which point he claimed he grabbed the metal pipe of a vacuum cleaner which was lying nearby and "in the spur of the moment" put it on her neck.

Ginday said he then "panicked", dragged his new bride to the patio incinerator and placed her inside using a metal pole.

After the killing, the police said Ginday told his relatives Varkha had left him. He went to Walsall Police Station with his uncle and reported her as missing.

Officers conducting inquiries in the area were told people had seen smoke emanating from the property.

They went into the garden of the home Ginday shared with his parents and found the metal incinerator. When they lifted the lid, they saw a human skull.

Although he admitted manslaughter and perverting the course of justice, he denied planning to kill his wife.

Varkha's cousin Sunil Kumar said: "No words can truly express the sadness and hurt my family and I are experiencing at the loss of Varkha. She was loved dearly by all. She had a great passion for life and doted on her family.

"Varkha attained a masters degree and was driven to make her life a success. Unfortunately she fell prey to Ginday who had ulterior motives which Varkha would not have appreciated."

Det Ch Insp Sarbjit Johal said: "How Varkha met her death still remains a mystery... but it was clear to the pathologist she was dead when she was put into the incinerator.

"Ginday got married as a matter of convenience - he tricked a poor innocent girl into marriage but was living a lie. When she uncovered the truth he could not live with it and killed her quickly then tried to dispose of her body and her possessions by burning them."

New Delhi (AFP) - Voters went to the polls in New Delhi Thursday on the first major day of India's marathon national election, with the capital a key battleground for an anti-corruption party which shot to fame last year.

Almost a fifth of parliament's 543 seats are up for grabs on Thursday, the third of nine phases of voting in the world's biggest election that will end when results are published on May 16.

As well as the capital and its 17 million residents, ballots were cast in densely populated rural constituencies in northern India where the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) -- seen as the election frontrunner -- is expected to poll strongly.

But Thursday was of particular importance for the 18-month-old anti-corruption Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which triumphed in the Delhi state election last December and is now contesting more than 400 parliamentary seats nationally.

Seen as a potential challenge to India's established political parties earlier this year, there were signs of disillusionment among some early voters after AAP's troubled time running the Delhi government.

The party has struggled to shake the "quitter" tag following the dramatic resignation of party chief Arvind Kejriwal just 49 days after he came to office as the capital's chief minister.

"We need stability. So I won't waste my vote on him," Jitender Singh, a 38-year-old rickshaw driver in a purple turban, told AFP in the old part of the city. "For now it is Modi, Modi, Modi for me. For the country actually."

Polarising figure

He was referring to BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, the controversial hardline Hindu nationalist tipped to become prime minister at the head of a coalition led by his party.

His alleged links to anti-Muslim riots in his home state of Gujarat and his uncompromising public statements make him a polarising figure, particularly for religious minorities.

But many voters have been swayed by his promises of economic development, strong leadership and clean government after a decade of rule by the scandal-tainted Congress party and the Gandhi political dynasty.

Kedarnath Agarwal, a 79-year-old speaking as shopkeepers rolled up their shutters and the first voters trickled into a nearby polling station, said he would abandon Congress for the first time in 50 years.

"All my hopes are pinned on Modi. He is a real leader, strong, decisive and experienced -- that's what we need this time," he said.

The 63-year-old politician made headlines Thursday after declaring for the first time that he was married, ending one of the biggest mysteries about his closely guarded private life.

Media reports had previously described how he walked away from a marriage arranged by his parents when he was a child, but this has never been confirmed by the man himself who has portrayed his single status as a virtue while campaigning.

Riot victims

In Uttar Pradesh state, a key battleground that sends 80 MPs to parliament, voters in an area hit by religious riots last August also went to the polls, including those still living in refugee camps.

The riots left more than 50, mostly Muslims, dead and tore apart communities in the district of Muzaffarnagar, with local politicians facing charges of inciting the violence.

The unrest is seen as having polarised the electorate in Uttar Pradesh along religious lines, with the BJP seen as benefiting from greater support from Hindus while secular-rooted parties promise to protect religious minorities.

"I will commit suicide, kill my children but not vote for Modi. He is so ferocious," Adisa Khatoon, a 35-year-old mother from one of the camps, told AFP.

The BJP has fielded two candidates from the area who have been charged with inciting the attacks which drove 50,000 people from their homes.

Elsewhere on Thursday, an attack by Maoist rebels on security forces guarding polling booths killed two paramilitary policemen in the eastern state of Bihar, the Press Trust of India news agency reported.

On Wednesday three policemen were killed by the Maoists in the insurgency-racked central state of Chhattisgarh.

Back in Delhi, early voting took place peacefully and slowly after authorities declared a public holiday, with voters making their way to polling stations in bright spring sunshine.

Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi, dressed in a green sari, and her son Rahul, who is leading campaigning for a national election for the first time, cast their votes on Thursday morning.

Turnout in New Delhi was about 35 percent at 3:00 pm (1130 GMT), three hours before polls shut. Turnout in 2009 was 52 percent.

The first two rounds of voting took place Monday and Wednesday in the remote northeast of the country, where only 12 constituencies went to the polls.

Damascus (AFP) - Syria's Red Crescent and the UN refugee agency have delivered aid to rebel-held areas of Aleppo city for the first time in 10 months, the Red Crescent said Wednesday.

"Yesterday at noon we and a UNHCR team were able to bring in aid from the Jisr al-Haj crossing," Red Crescent operations chief Khaled Erksoussi told AFP.

The crossing lies between the government-held west of Aleppo and eastern parts of the city that rebels control.

"The operation took place after the implementation of a ceasefire between all the parties that was respected during the mission," said Erksoussi.

It was the first time aid had been brought in via the Jisr al-Haj crossing, with a delivery in June last year entering from the northeast of the city instead.

The goods, including food, blankets and health kits, were taken into the eastern neighbourhoods on carts pulled by workers because the crossing was to small to accomodate vehicles, said Erksoussi.

The items would be stored in warehouses in the eastern part of the city and distributed in stages.

The UN refugee agency called the mission a "rare and risky operation," adding its staff had observed a "dire humanitarian situation inside eastern Aleppo".

It described "an acute shortage of food, water, medicine and basic supplies".

"UNHCR last accessed the area in June, 2013 and no humanitarian aid has reached the population there since then," it added.

It said the aid had been delivered to the crossing in two trucks and then transported by 75 workers pulling carts "back and forth one and a half kilometres each way... in 270 trips."

Aleppo has been effectively divided into regime control in the west and rebel control in the east since shortly after fighting began there in the middle of 2012.

The government has made some advances on the outskirts of the eastern side of the city in a campaign that has included serial aid raids including with the use of explosive-packed barrel bombs.

Manila (AFP) - The Philippines' highest court approved Tuesday a controversial birth control law that supporters said would transform the lives of millions of poor Filipinos, in a stunning defeat for the powerful Catholic Church.

"The RH law is not unconstitutional," Supreme Court spokesman Theodore Te told reporters, announcing a ruling that struck down more than a dozen petitions against the reproductive health law by church groups.

The law requires government health centres to hand out free condoms and birth control pills, as well as mandating that sex education be taught in schools.

The law also requires that public health workers receive family planning training, while post abortion medical care is also legalised.

The Catholic Church had until Tuesday led a successful campaign for more than 15 years against any form of family planning laws in the Philippines.

Philippine President Benigno Aquino defied church pressure and signed the law into effect in December 2012, but the Supreme Court quickly suspended it after church groups filed petitions arguing it was unconstitutional.

"This monumental decision upholds the separation of church and state and affirms the supremacy of government in secular concerns like health and socio-economic development," legislator Edcel Lagman, the principal author of the law, said immediately after the verdict.

"A grateful nation salutes the majority of justices for their favourable ruling promoting reproductive health and giving impetus to sustainable human development."

The Catholic Church, which counts over 80 percent of the country's 100 million population as members, had led street protests denouncing the law as "evil", and at one point in its opposition campaign threatened Aquino with excommunication.

'Civil disobedience'

One of its hardline opponents and a petitioner to the court, former senator Francisco Tatad, said allowing the law to take effect could force Catholics into an open revolt.

"This means civil disobedience at the very least, actual revolt at the most extreme," Tatad wrote in a commentary in the Manila Times newspaper on Tuesday.

"Some of us will want to defy the power of the devil and die as martyrs, if need be, in the only cause that gives us a chance to fight for something much bigger than ourselves."

Church leaders have helped lead two revolutions that toppled unpopular presidents in recent Philippine history, and they continue to insist they have a right to influence the parliamentary and legal branches of government.

Another example of its enduring influence is that the Philippines is the only country where divorce remains illegal.

Nevertheless, many people across the sprawling archipelago have embraced less conservative views in recent decades.

A recent survey carried by the respected Social Weather Stations polling group said about 84 percent of Filipinos agreed that the government should provide free family planning options such as contraceptives.

It said 72 percent were "in favour" of the law.

Women's rights groups and other supporters of the law say it will be a powerful tool in fighting poverty and cutting the birth rate of 3.54, one of the highest in the world.

More than a quarter of the population live on the equivalent of 62 cents a day, according to the government, and experts say there is an urgent need to provide free reproductive medical services that the poor can not otherwise afford.

More than a third of the capital's 14 million population live in sprawling slums, according to a 2010 World Health Organization report, and many of them do not have access to proper sanitation, let alone health centres.

According to the British medical charity Merlin, which has backed the passage of the law, 14-15 mothers die daily in the Philippines in complications related to child birth.

Here is one that is a review. We keep bringing it up because Humans don't believe it. If you're going to start living longer, there are those who are frightened that there will be overpopulation. You've seen the way it is so far, and the geometric progression of mathematics is absolute and you cannot change it. So if you look at the population of the earth and how much it has shifted in the last two decades, it's frightening to you. What would change that progression?

The answer is simple, but requires a change in thinking. The answer is a civilization on the planet who understands a new survival scenario. Instead of a basic population who has been told to have a lot of children to enhance the race [old survival], they begin to understand the logic of a new scenario. The Akashic wisdom of the ages will start to creep in with a basic survival scenario shift. Not every single woman will look at herself and say, "The clock is ticking," but instead can say, "I have been a mother 14 times in a row. I'm going to sit this one out." It's a woman who understands that there is no loss or guilt in this, and actually feels that the new survival attribute is to keep the family small or not at all! Also, as we have said before, even those who are currently ignorant of population control will figure out what is causing babies to be born [Kryon joke].

Part of the new Africa will be education and healing, and eventually a zero population growth, just like some of the first-world nations currently have. Those who are currently tied to a spiritual doctrine will actually have that doctrine changed (watch for it) regarding Human birth. Then they will be able to make free choice that is appropriate even within the establishment of organized religion. You see, things are going to change where common sense will say, "Perhaps it would help the planet if I didn't have children or perhaps just one child." Then the obvious, "Perhaps I can exist economically better and be wiser with just one. It will help the one!" Watch for these changes. For those of you who are steeped in the tradition of the doctrines and would say that sounds outrageously impossible, I give you the new coming pope [Kryon smile]. For those of you who feel that uncontrolled procreation is inevitable, I encourage you to see statistics you haven't seen or didn't care to look at yet about what first-world countries have already accomplished on their own, without any mandates. Indonesian Maid Wilfrida Escapes Malaysian Death Sentence

Jakarta. Indonesian maid Wilfrida Soik escaped the death penalty after a Malaysian court on Monday acquitted her of murdering her elderly Malaysian employer on the ground of insanity, ending more than three years of legal battle that has drawn the attention of the Indonesian public and politicians alike.

Wilfrida was charged with murder under Malaysia’s tough Penal Code after she allegedly killed 60-year-old Yeap Seok Pen at the latter’s house in Pasir Mas in Malaysia’s Kelantan state in December 2010.

Judges at Malaysia’s Kota Bharu High Court on Monday said Wilfrida was proven to have murdered Yeap by stabbing her 42 times, but that she had done that while in a mentally ill condition, the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, which has hired lawyers to defend Wilfrida, said Monday.

The 20-year-old has been suffering from an “acute and transient psychotic disorder,” and judges said she should be treated at Permai Hospital in the Malaysian state of Johor while waiting for the sultan of Kelantan to pardon her, before she could return to her family in Belu district, in East Nusa Tenggara province.

“[Wilfrida’s] IQ is also very low, rendering her unable to fully understand realities around her, as well as the legal consequence of her actions,” the embassy said in a statement. “Because of her mental condition, the judges said she was not guilty.”

The judges also accepted the lawyers’ defense that Wilfrida had committed the crime while she was underage, the embassy added. Under Malaysia’s law, capital punishment is not applicable to minors, and the child law should be used instead to charge such offenders.

Wilfrida’s actual age at the time of the crime was a focal point of her defense. Her passport carries a birth date of June 8, 1989, but her christening letter from a Catholic church in Indonesia reads Oct. 12, 1993.

Judges agreed that she was 17 when committing the crime and not 21 as suggested by the passport, the information of which was allegedly falsified by a trafficker sending her to Malaysia in 2010.

The case is not over yet, though, the embassy warned. “Prosecutors may still appeal the ruling within 14 days after receiving a written statement of the verdict.”

Monday’s ruling, nevertheless, was cheered by Indonesian activists who have been following closely Wilfrida’s case, including those from a nongovernmental group concerned with Indonesian migrant workers’ issues, Migrant Care, which has sent its Malaysian officer to attend court hearings on the case.

“Since the beginning, Migrant Care believes Wilfrida didn’t deserve the death penalty because she was underage [at the time of the crime] and she was a victim of human trafficking,” the group said in a statement issued soon after the ruling.

“The acquittal and the decision that she has to undergo mental treatment at the Malaysian hospital is fair and just because she murdered the employer to defend herself from the employer’s torture.”

Wilfrida’s three-year legal battle has drawn widespread sympathy in Indonesia, with a petition to support her posted by Migrant Care executive director Anis Hidayah at the website change.org signed by more than 13,000 people.

Aside from drawing public support, Wilfrida’s case has also interested some Indonesian politicians, the most high-profile one being Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) founder and presidential hopeful Prabowo Subianto.

Prabowo announced in September he was hiring a top Malaysian lawyer to join the Indonesian defense team in the case.

Prabowo even went so far as to fly to Malaysia on Sunday so that he could attend Monday’s hearing at the Kota Bharu court. He said he was glad his hiring of Malaysian lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee appeared to be fruitful.

“Thank God Wilfrida is free,” Prabowo said in a statement to the media on Monday. “Thank you for the support and prayers from the people of Indonesia. Without those, this wouldn’t have happened.”

Migrant Care’s Anis, though, said Prabowo played only a small role in Wilfrida’s freedom. “He only hired the lawyer last September, around the time he declared his presidential bid,” she said.

Prabowo officially declared his presidential bid in October.

Anis attributed instead the success in Wilfrida’s defense to the Indonesian government.

“The government has been quite comprehensive this time, hiring lawyers, establishing communications with civil society groups and local communities from Wilfrida’s hometown … allowing them to get a statement from the church where she had been baptized concerning her actual age.”

Wilfrida’s acquittal came just days after Satinah binti Jumaidi Ahmad, a 41-year-old migrant worker from Central Java, narrowly escaped being beheaded in Saudi Arabia last Friday after the Indonesian government agreed to pay 7 million riyal ($1.9 million) in diyat , or blood money, to the victim’s family.

Satinah was sentenced to be executed in the kingdom after being convicted of killing her then-employer in 2007 and fleeing with 37,970 riyal.

Anis, though, said that the work of protecting Indonesians abroad was far from over. She said there were currently a total of 245 other Indonesian migrant workers facing the death penalty overseas — in Malaysia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, China, Iran and Qatar.

In Malaysia alone, the number stands at 176, with most of the alleged offenders charged with drug abuse, according to the Indonesian Embassy.

This year already 14 of them have been saved from the death penalty, including Wilfrida.

Anis said one obstacles in saving those condemned was the fact that Indonesia itself still practiced capital punishment.

“The thing is, those countries ask how come you [Indonesia] demand that your citizens be exempted from capital punishment when you also adopt capital punishment,” Anis told the Jakarta Globe. “That’s why Migrant Care is among the opponents of the practice; it’s against human rights.”

At a policy level, the government has shown more commitment to better protecting Indonesian migrant workers, who reportedly sent Rp 88 trillion ($7.7 billion) in remittances home last year, Anis said.

She praised in particular the government’s ratification of the UN Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families two years ago, saying the convention provided comprehensive guidelines on how to deal with and take care of migrant workers — prior to their overseas assignments and even after they return home.

The former US president says he finds it increasingly unlikely that we're alone in the universe, and hopes if we are visited by extraterrestrials that they come in peace.

Bill Clinton has revealed he "wouldn't be surprised" if aliens visited Earth after he ordered a complete review of secret government files.

The former US president has opened up about his efforts investigating extraterrestrial life during an appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! talk show.

He said his second term in office included the 50th anniversary of the infamous Roswell incident, which sparked a generation of conspiracy theories about a possible UFO crash landing.

Mr Clinton said he had all the records on the incident reviewed in time for the anniversary, as well as all the records on the secret Area 51 military base "to make sure there was no alien down there".

While he didn't find an alien, he said the truth is out there.

"If we were visited some day, I wouldn't be surprised," he said.

He promised the late-night host that he would tell the public if he had proof of alien life after reviewing the government's files.

"I just hope that it's not like Independence Day, the movie, that it's a conflict. It may be the only way to unite us in this increasingly divided world of ours."

.....SB: Well, I can certainly vouch for that, Lord. I’m practically blissed out, as we speak! I’m sure the love is pouring through your broadcast.

I have four questions to ask.

First one is, Ashtar through Phillip has mentioned contact between galactics and humans. And I’m sure you know that reading. And there are rumors of an impending landing by the galactics. I don’t think either of these events is meant to be Disclosure, but they’re kind of preliminary things that are happening. Can you tell us anything about that?

AAM: Your star brothers and sisters have a great deal of activity planned for the very, very near future. Disclosure in terms of a formal announcement from the heads of countries? Well, I would suggest that those above and below have almost given up on that occurrence.

So they will be backed into it, if anything. The sightings, the landings, the presence that is announced will be simultaneous, in different places, in what we would say, more rural villages, all over the planet, at once.

SB: Wow.

AAM: And they will come not to the heads of nations, but to the villages, to the people. They will come in the smaller craft. There will be an energy field, just like they are now penetrating the planet and each of you with a soft pink glow; there will be an energy glow of the pink.

No, they’re not going to change the material of their machines, but there will be an energy field that will reassure people. And this has been done also through much of the work of having troops on the ground, understanding the variations and the frequencies of communications.

If anything, what will occur is that your star brothers and sisters will present their credentials in very small groups to, for example, the mayor of a small town or a village. Because that is the level at which they wish to connect.

It is very low key, and it is also saying to those who in fact have their feet closer to the ground, as it were, that your role in working with your village, and our value for your role, is profound.

The leaders of many nations — and we do not disrespect or dismiss them — but the leaders of too many nations that have agreed — in G8, G20 — that the star brothers and sisters are present have simply not stepped forward. So it is a more casual approach.

And then, when you have the mayors and the people of villages all over the globe declaring that they have visitations and new allies, this will force the hands of those “people in power,” because that is not where the power lies, to say, “Oh, yes, that is so.”

So it will be a very gentle initiative.

SB: Well, Lord, why does Barack Obama need prodding? I thought he was pro-Disclosure and willing to disclose? Or Medvedev, for that matter?

AAM: Many of them are pro-Disclosure, and they have agreed in private conversations of meetings of nation-heads to Disclosure, but they have not proceeded. They have also allowed themselves to be influenced by military. And this is particularly true … well, some of the more recalcitrant factors have been at work in terms of working out some of the angst and anger. So they have always had higher priorities on their agendas.

Now, your star brothers and sisters have waited hundreds and hundreds of years, as you well know. And could they wait hundreds of years longer? Yes. But you can’t.

Earth, Terra Gaia, Kingdoms, are not in a position, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, physically, to wait indefinitely. And your star brothers and sisters, they came, all of them, on a mission of peace, with an olive branch of love, with technology and goods, science and culture, very rich, that they wished once again to engage with this planet in exchange and mutuality, and particularly in assisting Earth to raise — and everything upon her to raise — to the higher frequency and dimensions.  So they are not willing to step back and miss the main event!

SB: Absolutely.  Can you give us an update on what the outlook is in trouble spots like Venezuela, China and North and South Korea?  ....
