“… The Shift in Human Nature

You're starting to see integrity change. Awareness recalibrates integrity, and the Human Being who would sit there and take advantage of another Human Being in an old energy would never do it in a new energy. The reason? It will become intuitive, so this is a shift in Human Nature as well, for in the past you have assumed that people take advantage of people first and integrity comes later. That's just ordinary Human nature.

In the past, Human nature expressed within governments worked like this: If you were stronger than the other one, you simply conquered them. If you were strong, it was an invitation to conquer. If you were weak, it was an invitation to be conquered. No one even thought about it. It was the way of things. The bigger you could have your armies, the better they would do when you sent them out to conquer. That's not how you think today. Did you notice?

Any country that thinks this way today will not survive, for humanity has discovered that the world goes far better by putting things together instead of tearing them apart. The new energy puts the weak and strong together in ways that make sense and that have integrity. Take a look at what happened to some of the businesses in this great land (USA). Up to 30 years ago, when you started realizing some of them didn't have integrity, you eliminated them. What happened to the tobacco companies when you realized they were knowingly addicting your children? Today, they still sell their products to less-aware countries, but that will also change.

What did you do a few years ago when you realized that your bankers were actually selling you homes that they knew you couldn't pay for later? They were walking away, smiling greedily, not thinking about the heartbreak that was to follow when a life's dream would be lost. Dear American, you are in a recession. However, this is like when you prune a tree and cut back the branches. When the tree grows back, you've got control and the branches will grow bigger and stronger than they were before, without the greed factor. Then, if you don't like the way it grows back, you'll prune it again! I tell you this because awareness is now in control of big money. It's right before your eyes, what you're doing. But fear often rules. …”

New American Ambassador to Asean a Sign of Growing Ties

David Lee Carden on Tuesday officially became the first US representative to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, in a move seen as underlining the regional bloc’s growing importance to the United States.

Carden presented his credentials to Surin Pitsuwan, the Asean secretary general. With the appointment, the United States now has two ambassadors in Jakarta, which hosts the Asean Secretariat. The other is Scot Marciel, the US ambassador to Indonesia.

“It’s wonderful to be here when Indonesia is the chair of Asean, which is going to move forward under Indonesia’s chairmanship and it is doing so now,” Carden told reporters after his meeting with Surin at the Asean Secretariat.

A former attorney, Carden was sworn in as the United States’ representatives to Asean by President Barack Obama on March 29.

“The Asean Charter is something that all of us can expect that Asean will accomplish over the years and I want to do everything that I can help in that regard,” Carden said.

The charter, which was adopted in 2007, lays out the principles of the bloc, and also calls for the establishment of a regional free-trade zone.

In June 2010, the United States became the first non-Asean country to establish a dedicated mission to the regional grouping. It is the second Asean dialogue partner after Japan to send a resident ambassador to Jakarta exclusively to oversee relations with the bloc.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited the Asean Secretariat on her first overseas trip in the position, in February 2009. It was the first time an American secretary of state had visited the secretariat.

“Proactive re-engagement of the US with Asean has reinvigorated Asean-US relations,” Surin said in a statement. “The historic Asean-US leaders’ meetings reflect the US’ recognition of Asean’s growing role in global issues. I am looking forward to working with Ambassador Carden to maintain this momentum.

Danilo Arana Arao, a journalism assistant professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman, told the Jakarta Globe that Asean had to be careful that it benefitted from Carden’s appointment.

“There has to be a concession in such a way that Asean will benefit more because the US has the history of exploiting certain territory just for its own benefit,” Arao said.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Military (TNI) is gearing up for heightened security ahead of the 18th Asean Summit, scheduled to be held in Jakarta on May 4-8.

In an inspection of the forces that will help secure visiting dignitaries during the summit, the TNI’s chief of the general staff, Lt. Gen. Surjo Prabowo, said the security effort would also include the Jakarta Police and canine squads.

In a display of their readiness on Tuesday, soldiers gave a display of riot handling and evacuating dignitaries from high-rise buildings.

“We are organizing drills that might mirror actual situations so that there won’t be any doubts about the readiness of the security forces to take action to protect the VVIPs, even if that involves serving as human shields for them,” Surjo said.

US Ambassador-Designate to Indonesia Marciel arrives in Jakarta

The U.S. Ambassador-Designate to Indonesia, Scot Marciel, and his family arrived in Jakarta on Monday.

“My family and I are delighted to be in Indonesia and I look forward to assuming my official duties in the immediate future. I am excited to be in this important country at this time of tremendous opportunity and promise in U.S.-Indonesia relations. I am honored by this assignment," Marciel said in a statement.

He further said that in his new role he would do his best to implement President Obama’s policies recognizing Indonesia’s key role in the region.

"This includes building a stronger relationship built on partnership, a partnership in which we have great opportunities to expand our cooperation in areas like education, climate change and enhancing shared prosperity," said Marciel.

"The United States admires all that the Indonesian people have accomplished in their 65 years of independence, and we want to be a good friend and partner in Indonesia’s promising future,” he added.

Ambassador-designate Marciel expects to present his credentials to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the near future.

He most recently served as the U.S. Ambassador for ASEAN Affairs. He and his wife Mae have two children. He succeeds Ambassador Cameron Hume who departed Jakarta on Aug. 6 after a three year assignment in Indonesia.

Greek Ambassador to ASEAN Presents Letter of Appointment

Today at the ASEAN Secretariat, H.E. Dimitri Tsikouris, who has been appointed the Greek Ambassador to ASEAN, presented his letter of appointment to Dr Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary-General of ASEAN. Greece became the 8th Member State of the European Union (EU) to appoint its Ambassador to ASEAN.

Dr Surin said, “We welcome the appointment of Ambassador Tsikouris and look foward to working with him to expand ASEAN-Greece and ASEAN-EU relations.”

According to the ASEAN Charter, non-ASEAN countries may appoint and accredit Ambassadors to ASEAN. As one of ASEAN’s Dialogue Partners, the European Union (EU) has announced that all 27 member states will appoint Ambassadors to ASEAN.

Greece's appointment of an ambassador to ASEAN was preceded by Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The European Commission has also appointed its Ambassador to ASEAN.

Ambassador Tsikouris is concurrently the Ambassador of Greece to the Republic of Indonesia.

Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to ASEAN Presents His Credentials

Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to ASEAN, U Nyan Lynn, who is concurrently the Ambassador of the Union of Myanmar to the Republic of Indonesia, today presented his credentials to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr Surin Pitsuwan, at a ceremony at the ASEAN Secretariat.

Receiving the credentials, Dr Surin said, “The addition of Ambassador U Nyan Lynn as a member of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) will ensure smoother cooperation and communication between Myanmar and the ASEAN Community Councils, ASEAN Sectoral Ministerial Bodies, ASEAN National Secretariats and the ASEAN Secretariat; all in the effort of building the ASEAN Community.”

Prior to Myanmar, Dr Surin has accepted credentials from the Permanent Representatives to ASEAN from Singapore, Viet Nam, Lao PDR, Cambodia and Philippines. As the ASEAN Charter stipulates, the other ASEAN Member States – Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand – shall also appoint Permanent Representatives to ASEAN, and collectively they will constitute the CPR. This new mechanism will enhance the efficiency of ASEAN integration efforts.

Denmark Appoints Ambassador to ASEAN

Denmark becomes the seventh EU member state to appoint its Ambassador to ASEAN. Mr Børge Petersen, concurrently the Danish Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia, today presented his letter of appointment to Dr Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary-General of ASEAN.

ASEAN has in the past cooperated with Denmark in the areas of transnational crime and capacity building in the Trade in Goods for new members of ASEAN. Dr Surin said of this appointment, “I hope Ambassador Petersen’s appointment will bring about a new dimension to ASEAN-Denmark relations. In particular, Denmark has a strong tradition of sustainable development, social justice and humanitarian concerns. There are a lot that can be shared and exchanged for the purpose of ASEAN integration and community building.”

The EU has announced that all 27 member states and the European Commission will appoint Ambassadors to ASEAN. So far, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the European Commission have appointed their Ambassadors to ASEAN.

Mercado named ASEAN envoy

MANILA, Philippines—President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has appointed former senator and defense secretary Orlando Mercado as permanent representative to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The President administered the oath of office to Mercado at the Heroes’ Hall in Malacañang on Wednesday.

The former campaign manager of the administration’s senatorial ticket in 2007, Antonio “Tonypet” Albano, will replace Mercado as president and chief executive officer of state-run television RPN-9, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said.

Mercado’s appointment will not require confirmation by the Commission on Appointments (CA), because he will not serve as envoy to a single country, as in the cases of Ambassadors Hilario Davide Jr. and Manul Teehankee, the country’s permanent representatives to the United Nations (UN) and the World Economic Forum (WEF), respectively, Ermita said.

Mercado was initially appointed as ambassador to China, but he was bypassed at the CA.

As defense secretary in 2001, Mercado led a defection of military generals from then president Joseph Estrada, who was besieged with corruption allegations, paving the way for the then vice president Arroyo to take over government.

Cambodia’s Permanent Representative to ASEAN presents Credentials

Cambodia’ Permanent Representative to ASEAN, Kan Pharidh, today presented his credentials to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr Surin Pitsuwan, in aspecial ceremony at the ASEAN Secretariat.

Dr Surin said, “Ambassador Kan’s many years of experience in ASEAN affairs will, no doubt, contribute positively to the Committee of Permanent Representatives, now being formed. I look forward to working with him on building our ASEAN Community.”

Ambassador Kan is concurrently Cambodia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia. Prior to his appointment, he was Director-General, ASEAN-Cambodia General Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Cambodia.

So far, the Permanent Representatives of four ASEAN Member States have presented their credentials. They are Singapore, Vietnam, Lao PDR and Cambodia. Myanmar, Philippines and Thailand are expected to follow suit soon.

The Secretary-General of ASEAN hopes that the Committee of Permanent Representatives will be able to meet for the first time at the end of March.

KAN Pharidh, Cambodia's permanent representative to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, presented his credentials Thursday to the Asean secretary general, Surin Pitsuwan, in a ceremony at the Asean secretariat.

"Ambassador Kan [has] many years of experience in Asean affairs. ... I look forward to working with him on building our Asean community," Surin said, according to a press release.

The permanent representatives of four member states - Singapore, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia - have now presented their credentials.

Russia and Belgium Appoint Ambassadors to ASEAN

Belgium’s Ambassador to ASEAN, Marc Trenteseau, and Russia’s Ambassador to ASEAN, Alexander A. Ivanov, presented their letters of appointment to the Secretary-General of ASEAN this week.

Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr Surin Pitsuwan, said, “The appointment of Ambassadors toASEAN will certainly contribute to the development and deepening of relations between ASEAN and its Dialogue Partners.”

Belgium is the sixth EU Member State to have appointed an Ambassador to ASEAN. The ASEAN-EU partnership, which started in 1972 and formalised in 1977, has been fruitful in the form of development cooperation, trade and investment. The EU is the largest investor in ASEAN and two-way trade in 2007 stood at USD 186 billion. It was recently announced that all 27 EU Member States will appoint Ambassadors to ASEAN. Ambassador Marc Trentesea is concurrently the Belgian Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia.

Russia is the 10th ASEAN Dialogue Partner to have appointed an Ambassador to ASEAN. Russia has set up a partnership fund (ASEAN-Russian Federation Dialogue Partnershi Financial Fund) to facilitate cooperation between ASEAN and the Russian Federation in the areas of science and technology, trade, culture, education, energy and others. Ambassador Alexander A. Ivanov is concurrently the Russian Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia.
