The Changhua county government in western Taiwan held a ceremony on Monday to mark the donation of five wheelchair-lift mini buses to the county by a lottery jackpot winner.

At the donation ceremony, Changhua county magistrate Cho Po-yuan thanked the anonymous donor and Taiwan Lottery, which helped complete the donation.

Cho noted that the new vehicles with their high roofs and spacious seats will be used to serve county residents who are physically or mentally challenged. The vehicles will be available for use around the clock at an affordable cost, he said.

The vehicles, worth NT$10 million (US$340,000), were donated by a a civil servant living in New Taipei who won a NT$1.5 billion (US$51 million) jackpot in April with a lottery ticket he purchased in Changhua county, according to the Taiwan Lottery.

The winner decided to donate a total of NT$120 million (US$4 million) to charity, including the NT$10 million (US$340,000) he designated for the county government to upgrade its public bus services for the disabled.

The ceremony was attended by Taiwan Lottery chairman Hsueh Hsiang-chuan and president Huang Chih-yi.
