The
Changhua county government in western Taiwan held a ceremony on Monday to mark
the donation of five wheelchair-lift mini buses to the county by a lottery
jackpot winner.
At the donation
ceremony, Changhua county magistrate Cho Po-yuan thanked the anonymous donor
and Taiwan Lottery, which helped complete the donation.
Cho noted
that the new vehicles with their high roofs and spacious seats will be used to
serve county residents who are physically or mentally challenged. The vehicles
will be available for use around the clock at an affordable cost, he said.
The
vehicles, worth NT$10 million (US$340,000), were donated by a a civil servant
living in New Taipei who won a NT$1.5 billion (US$51 million) jackpot in April
with a lottery ticket he purchased in Changhua county, according to the Taiwan
Lottery.
The winner
decided to donate a total of NT$120 million (US$4 million) to charity,
including the NT$10 million (US$340,000) he designated for the county
government to upgrade its public bus services for the disabled.
The
ceremony was attended by Taiwan Lottery chairman Hsueh Hsiang-chuan and
president Huang Chih-yi.
