RI to promote Jakarta as ASEAN diplomatic capital

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Wed, 09/15/2010 9:05 PM

The Indonesian government is preparing to promote Jakarta as the diplomatic capital of the Association of South East Asia Nations, Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said.

“The recent developments on the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) have been very good. The AIPA has a strategic role in supporting ASEAN to reach its common goals,” Marty said on Wednesday after signing a secretarial immunity agreement of the AIPA in Jakarta, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

The appointment of Jakarta as the diplomatic capital for ASEAN would bring privilege and “immunity” to the city-based secretarial office, Marty said.
