The government of Saudi Arabia executed a man on Tuesday for the 2010 murder of
Indonesian domestic worker Kikim Komalasari, according to an official from
Indonesia’s consulate in Jeddah.
Dicky
Yunus, a senior consular official in Saudi Arabia, said in a statement on
Wednesday that Syai Ali Al Qahtani was executed on Tuesday.
“Saudi
Arabia’s King Salman did not grant clemency and allowed the execution because
the murder was considered too vicious,” said Dicky.
In November
2010, Qahtani tortured and murdered his 23-year-old domestic worker, Kikim, who
was from Cianjur in West Java. Kikim’s body was found in a dumpster with her
throat cut and major injuries.
Dicky said
the Indonesian consulate was pursuing compensation for Kikim’s three children,
who are 22, 15 and 9 years old.
“The
Indonesian consulate general is helping the process of receiving compensation
for Kikim’s kin. If needed, we will also provide lawyers,” Dicky said.
