The Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC) confirmed Saturday that Su Rong, a former senior political advisor, has been dismissed from his post as an NPC deputy.
Su, former
vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC)
National Committee, was disqualified as a deputy to the country's top
legislature by the Jiangxi Provincial People's Congress Standing Committee on
Sept. 25.
In June, Su
was removed from his post as the CPPCC National Committee vice chairman after
being probed for suspected "serious disciplinary and law violations."
Born in
1948, Su is a native of northeast China's Jilin province. From 2001 to 2013, he
served successively as party chief of Qinghai, Gansu and Jiangxi provinces. He
was one of the top-level officials being investigated for corruption and other
serious disciplinary violations. Serious offenders have been vividly compared
to "tigers" in the Communist Party of China (CPC)'s anti-corruption
campaign.
The top
legislature also confirmed the dismissal of Bai Enpei, former deputy head of
the NPC Environment and Resources Protection Committee, from his deputy post.
Bai was removed from office for suspected "serious discipline and law
violations" on Sept. 3.
In
addition, Pan Yiyang, former vice chairman of the government of north China's
Inner Mongolia autonomous region, was confirmed to be stripped of his NPC
deputy post. Pan, also a former member of the Standing Committee of the CPC
Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional Committee, was removed from his post for
suspected discipline and law violations on Sept. 21.
Other
dismissals include Yuan Yuzhu and Liu Jianzhong, two enterprise heads and
national lawmakers elected from north China's Shanxi province, as well as Shan
Zengqing, a local official and lawmaker elected from northeastern Heilongjiang
province, due to suspected law violations.
The top
legislature finalized the resignation of Yan Fulong, former general manager of
the State Grid Liaoning Electric Power Supply; Zhang Zebao, head of a real
estate company in central Henan province; and Deng Quanzhong, former deputy
head of the CPC's Ziyang Municipal Committee in southwestern Sichuan province
and former mayor of Ziyang, as NPC deputies. All resigned for law and
discipline violations.
Mao
Fengmei, an NPC deputy from northeastern Liaoning province, died on Sept. 26.
Lawmaker Wei Jianghong, president of Tongling Nonferrous Metal Group Holding in
eastern Anhui province, died after falling from a building, according to the
top legislature.
It also
confirmed the election of Qin Guangrong, former party chief of southwestern
Yunnan province, as vice chairman of the NPC Committee for Internal and
Judicial Affairs.
The total
number of NPC deputies currently stands at 2,963.
