Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono submitted a proposal to world leaders at the 2012
Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, South Korea on the use of legislation to
enhance the effectiveness of efforts to promote nuclear nonproliferation and
peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
Yudhoyono,
according to South Korean spokesperson Han Choong-hee, has suggested that every
participating nation should be equipped with legislative models to help each
respective government speed up the ratification of nuclear-concerned
conventions and initiatives.
“A lot of
initiatives have been started on nuclear security, yet they also have to be
reflected in the laws of each individual nation,” Han said on Tuesday in the
summit’s morning plenary session, where leaders of all 53 participating
countries deliver short speeches.
“The
legislative model should also include a checklist that can provide guidelines
for respective countries on their legislative processes,” he told international
reporters covering the summit, held at Seoul’s COEX Center.
No
Indonesian officials, however, were available to elaborate further on
Yudhoyono’s proposal.
