Former chief justice of the Constitutional Court Jimly Asshiddiqie on Tuesday proposed that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations implement an extradition treaty between its member countries.
Speaking on the sidelines of a seminar on radicalism hosted by the Defense Ministry on Tuesday, Jimly said Asean should establish a regional extradition treaty as part of the bloc's initiatives.
He said that a treaty was necessary in anticipation of the free movement of people within the region in light of Asean's plan for visa-free travel between member countries.
“There should be an Asean agenda to push for a multilateral extradition treaty — so we will not just have a visa-free region," Jimly said.
