Maritime security and terrorism were among the issues discussed in the ASEAN Political Security Community (APSC) Meeting, a minister said Friday after the meeting.
Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security Djoko Suyanto led the meeting along with Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa, as Indonesia is currently the chair of ASEAN.
The issue of the South China Sea, piracy and illegal logging were several of the topics discussed regarding maritime security, Djoko said.
"[The matter] will be discussed in sectoral bodies, perhaps among military chiefs, between defense ministers, maritime ministers..." he said.
Other issues included politics and democracy development as well as a nuclear-free zone for ASEAN, he said.
"We heard the report from the secretary-general of ASEAN [Surin Pitsuwan] who revealed the activities conducted by the ministers under their respective posts," he said.
The activities included the foreign ministers meeting, the defense ministers meeting, meetings among intelligence officers and the law and human rights ministers meeting on the implementation of cooperation in the legal realm and with politics and security posts.
The clash between Cambodia and Thailand was also discussed, Djoko said.
"[The issue] will be followed up on. The secretary-general has given a mandate to coordinate, which will be conducted by the sectoral body," he said.
Djokko said there would be a special forum to discuss the matter.
The APSC precedes the 18th ASEAN Summit, slated for Saturday and Sunday.
