Minsk (ANTARA News/AFP) - Belarus police early Monday arrested an AFP journalist in Minsk, where at least four challengers to President Alexander Lukashenko were also held after protests against presidential elections.
The journalist had been kept in detention for several hours, she said by phone.
Candidates Andrei Sannikov, Nikolai Statkevich, Rygor Katusev and Vitaly Rymanshevsky had all been arrested following the mass protests that erupted on Sunday, their party spokespeople told AFP.
Electoral commission figures released Monday showed Lukashenko had been re-elected in the first round of the disputed election with 79.67 percent of the votes
