Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Iran hopes Indonesia could play a constructive role in helping settle the nuclear issue in that country.
Iran president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad`s special envoy Alaeddin Boroujerdi conveyed the hope when he was received by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the presidential office here on Friday.
Indonesia`s foreign minister Marty Natalegawa who attended the meeting said to reporters after the meeting Iran viewed Indonesia has an independent stance over the Iranian nuclear issue.
Marty said Indonesia was ready to contribute according to the principles held by the country.
"Indonesia and Iran have a common view that it is the right of all nations to be able to use technology for peaceful purposes," he said.
He said the two countries also agreed about the need for a disarmament of nuclear weapons in countries already possessing them.
"Iran and Indonesia both agreed on non-proliferation of nuclear weapons," he said.
He said President Yudhoyono in the meeting also emphasized the country`s stance that Iran`s nuclear issue had to be settled through a dialogue and not by violent means.
"They discussed on how to improve the modality of the nuclear issue just now. In this context it was considered urgent to involve all countries to give weight on the view," he said.
In the meeting that lasted for an hour Boroujerdi who is also the chairman of the Iranian national security and foreign affairs commission, also submitted a letter from President Ahmadinejad for President Yudhoyono.
Marty said he did not know the content of the letter which was not discussed at the meeting.
