Batam immigration officers detained three immigrants from India and Britain on Thursday for illegally entering the country, Antara state news agency reported.

"They entered Batam illegally from Malaysia," Batam Immigration Office spokesman Yudi Kurniadi said in Batam on Thursday.

He said the foreigners were arrested at the check-in counter of Hang Nadim airport as they were about to board a Batavia flight to Jakarta.

Yudi said although Paraman Ramesh and Somu Baskanan of India and Narayanasamy Gunaretnam of Britain had legal passports, they had entered Indonesia illegally.

"They had been in Batam for three days and they wanted to go to Jakarta on Thursday," he said, adding that the Batam immigration office would soon coordinate with other related government agencies to deal with the case.

"We are going to deport them later," he added.
