Cambodia’ Permanent Representative to ASEAN, Kan Pharidh, today presented his credentials to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr Surin Pitsuwan, in aspecial ceremony at the ASEAN Secretariat.
Dr Surin said, “Ambassador Kan’s many years of experience in ASEAN affairs will, no doubt, contribute positively to the Committee of Permanent Representatives, now being formed. I look forward to working with him on building our ASEAN Community.”
Ambassador Kan is concurrently Cambodia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia. Prior to his appointment, he was Director-General, ASEAN-Cambodia General Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Cambodia.
So far, the Permanent Representatives of four ASEAN Member States have presented their credentials. They are Singapore, Vietnam, Lao PDR and Cambodia. Myanmar, Philippines and Thailand are expected to follow suit soon.
The Secretary-General of ASEAN hopes that the Committee of Permanent Representatives will be able to meet for the first time at the end of March.
