The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Plus Three and Plus Six summits will be held April 10-12 in Phuket, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Tuesday.

Mr Abhisit said Phuket was chosen because it has all the facilities needed to host a meeting of this size and the leaders of the participating countries are also happy with the timing.

The Phuket summits are being held in tandem with the14th Asean Summit, which ended last weekend in Cha-am, Phetchaburi.

The Asean Plus Three consists of leaders of the 10 Asean countries, Japan, South Korea, and China.

Attending the Plus-Six would be leaders from the 10 Asean countries, Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, New Zealand, and India.
