The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Sun, 02/22/2009 11:44 AM

The Malaysian maritime security has confiscated on Saturday afternoon two Singaporean vessels carrying 19 Indonesian and one Indian ship crew for smuggling oil in the Pengerang waters, Kota Tinggi Johor, Antara reported on Sunday.

According to Malaysian maritime law enforcer chief Che Hassan Jusoh, the Malaysian authority has detained tankers MT City Group and Marina 99 following suspicious behavior.

An inspection revealed that around 290,000 liters of marine fuel oil had illegally been transferred from MT City Group to Marina 99.

The incident had also led to an oil spill in surrounding waters, Che Hassan said.

Two ship captains and ship crew are currently being questioned. (amr)
