“….. Here is the prediction: China will turn North Korea loose soon. The alliance will dissolve, or become stale. There will be political upheaval in China. Not a coup and not a revolution. Within the inner circles of that which you call Chinese politics, there will be a re-evaluation of goals and monetary policy. Eventually, you will see a break with North Korea, allowing still another dictator to fall and unification to occur with the south. ….”

… The Shift in Human Nature

You're starting to see integrity change. Awareness recalibrates integrity, and the Human Being who would sit there and take advantage of another Human Being in an old energy would never do it in a new energy. The reason? It will become intuitive, so this is a shift in Human Nature as well, for in the past you have assumed that people take advantage of people first and integrity comes later. That's just ordinary Human nature.

In the past, Human nature expressed within governments worked like this: If you were stronger than the other one, you simply conquered them. If you were strong, it was an invitation to conquer. If you were weak, it was an invitation to be conquered. No one even thought about it. It was the way of things. The bigger you could have your armies, the better they would do when you sent them out to conquer. That's not how you think today. Did you notice?

Any country that thinks this way today will not survive, for humanity has discovered that the world goes far better by putting things together instead of tearing them apart. The new energy puts the weak and strong together in ways that make sense and that have integrity. Take a look at what happened to some of the businesses in this great land (USA). Up to 30 years ago, when you started realizing some of them didn't have integrity, you eliminated them. What happened to the tobacco companies when you realized they were knowingly addicting your children? Today, they still sell their products to less-aware countries, but that will also change.

What did you do a few years ago when you realized that your bankers were actually selling you homes that they knew you couldn't pay for later? They were walking away, smiling greedily, not thinking about the heartbreak that was to follow when a life's dream would be lost. Dear American, you are in a recession. However, this is like when you prune a tree and cut back the branches. When the tree grows back, you've got control and the branches will grow bigger and stronger than they were before, without the greed factor. Then, if you don't like the way it grows back, you'll prune it again! I tell you this because awareness is now in control of big money. It's right before your eyes, what you're doing. But fear often rules. …

President Xi stresses more reform, rule of law in New Year address

BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping underscored the need to continue efforts to advance reform and rule of law in 2015 in his New Year speech on Wednesday, comparing them to "a bird's two wings".

The president told domestic and overseas audiences that the past year was "unforgettable". His address was transmitted via state broadcasters.

"In 2014, we pressed ahead with reform, cracked many hard nuts and introduced a slew of important reform measures, which were closely related to the interests of our citizens.

"We adapted to the new normal of economic growth; actively promoted economic and social development; and further improved the people's lives," he said.

Xi said cadres at all levels had "given it their best shot", a popular phrase used by Chinese Internet users. "Of course, without the support of the people, we could not have achieved anything. I must give our great people a thumb-up."

In 2015, China will continue to comprehensively deepen reform, from which "there is no turning back", he said.

China will also continue to advance the rule of law to safeguard the people's rights and interests, guarantee social justice and promote national development, Xi added.

Reform and rule of law must be advanced at the same time to achieve an "all-round well-off society" by 2020 as scheduled, he said.

The Asean Region Ushers In the New Year Amid Uncertainty

In With the New: Member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations leave behind a year of aviation tragedies, political intrigue and economic concerns

summits in Myanmar on Nov. 13, 2014. (AFP Photo/Mandel Ngan)

Jakarta. 2014 hasn’t been a particularly great one for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations region. Two airline tragedies set the region’s mood for the whole year.

Malaysia Airlines’ MH370 disappeared on March 8 and MH17 was shot down over Donetsk in Ukraine on July 17. At year’s end, the tragedies are still wrapped in mystery. A former airline executive claims it’s possible the doomed MH370 flight was shot down by US fighter planes as it approached at low altitude the American fortress in Diego Garcia. Meanwhile, Russian investigators claim to have evidence that a Ukrainian pilot shot down MH17. Who knows?

The puzzle on the fate of these two doomed aircraft mirrors the uncertainty engulfing not just the Asean region today but also the world at large.

Look at Thailand. A government that came to power via coup d’etat on May 22 now rules the kingdom. Upon assuming power, it promised general elections in October 2015. This has been rescheduled to early 2016. Thais are pinning their hopes on the government keeping its word.

Soon after the coup, then Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa urged Asean to issue a statement of concern at the situation in Thailand. No dice. But a few Asean countries did express concern.

There are enough Thais willing to give the military government every chance to legitimize itself by fixing the economy and holding early elections. But if there’s no meaningful move to return the kingdom to democracy in 2015, and if in neighboring Myanmar the Rohingya remain brutally persecuted, you can kiss goodbye to the credibility of your Asean Political-Security Community.

Now take the South China Sea. Since 2008, China has been strongly assertive about its claim to sovereignty over almost all of the area. In the process, it has lumbered into dangerous standoffs with the Philippines and Vietnam. In January last year, the Philippines filed a case against the Chinese sovereignty claim based on nine dashed lines drawn on an old map.

China snubbed a Dec. 15 deadline to reply to the Philippine memo on the case. Instead it issued a blue paper arguing that the international Tribunal established to hear the case had no jurisdiction.

Now comes Vietnam formally apprising the Tribunal of its own claims to the Paracels and Spratlys islands that might be affected by the arbitration. It supports the Tribunal’s jurisdiction over the case and refutes China’s claim based on the nine dashed lines. Thus Vietnam, while protecting its claims, has weakened the Chinese position.

Meanwhile, Asean’s efforts to speed up negotiations with China on a legally binding Code of Conduct of parties in the South China Sea has been slowed down by Chinese stonewalling. As Asean chair, Myanmar did an excellent job in every other task of the chairmanship, but even this long-time friend of China couldn’t get the negotiations firmly underway.

Accordingly the US-based Council on Foreign Relations ranks the South China Sea number six among top ten conflict prevention priorities in 2015, with an estimate of the probability of a shooting war upgraded from low to moderate.

If conflict did flare up in the South China Sea, among the first victims would be Indonesia’s newly minted maritime doctrine. At the Asean and related summits in Myanmar last November, President Joko Widodo gave notice of Indonesia’s intention to become the world’s maritime fulcrum. As it straddles the junction between these oceans, Indonesia is indeed in the best position to preside over a network maritime trading nations.

Indonesia will therefore spend good money to refurbish its ports and other maritime infrastructures and to modernize its navy. With new hardware and new capacity, it will sternly protect its maritime territory and its exclusive economic zones. To underscore this policy, Indonesian authorities recently sank three Vietnamese boats and six boats belonging to Filipino Bajau tribesmen.

Observers cite barriers to the successful pursuit of this doctrine, such as a possible backlash from neighbors — if Indonesia doesn’t tread carefully. It will help that Asean, being a maritime region, is officially committed to boosting maritime connectivity. It will also help that China is on a charm offensive in the field of development finance, involving the Brics Bank, the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank, and the Maritime Road Initiative.

Thus we can be cautiously optimistic about Indonesia’s new maritime doctrine. And there are other positive developments: India has escalated its “Look East Policy” into an “Act East Policy,” which comes with an offer of a special purpose vehicle for project financing. India is now helping build the India-Myanmar-Thailand multi-modal transit project, which combines maritime, riverine and land transport infrastructures.

And then there’s the historic agreement between the Indonesia and the Philippines on the delineation of their exclusive economic zones. Both countries are offering that agreement as a model of how maritime boundary disputes can be settled peacefully to the satisfaction of all.

The big question about Asean, of course, is: Will it be ready to become the Asean Community by the end of 2015?

The short answer is “No.” That is why experts are saying Dec. 31, 2015 is not a true deadline. It will just be a landmark, beyond which Asean Community building will feverishly continue.

The long answer is also a “No” with an attached list of explanations. Here are two of the most often cited: first is the overblown sanctity of the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of countries, which deters full commitment to long-term regional goals, in favor of short-term country objectives.

And, second, where are the instruments for dealing with non-compliance? Without these instruments, the resulting impunity undermines the grouping’s claim to being a true Community. These instruments must be devised.

In the end, the Asean Community may well see the light of day in 2020 — which was the original plan anyway, until Asean leaders got overconfident and pushed the deadline forward to 2015.

Let’s bow to reality.

AirAsia, Indonesia and Effective Crisis Management

Jakarta Globe, Bloomberg, Dec 31, 2014

search for AirAsia Flight QZ8501, on Tuesday.(Antara Photo/Andika Wahyu)

In his run for president this year, Joko Widodo pledged to bring greater openness and accountability to Indonesia. As his administration faces its first international crisis, the mysterious crash of an AirAsia jet, he’s proving to be a man of his word.

You can tell a lot about a nation from its response to great tragedy, whether it’s Japan’s 2011 Fukushima crisis, Malaysia’s lost Boeing 777 in March or South Korea’s deadly ferry accident in April. So far, Joko has performed admirably.

Since news broke on Sunday that an Airbus A320 flying from Surabaya, Indonesia, to Singapore vanished with 162 people on board, Joko has coordinated search-and-rescue efforts, demanded a review of air safety regulations and called on weather agencies to provide timelier information. His government is giving steady updates, and Joko has sought help from Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Australia and, remarkably, China and the US in finding Flight QZ8501.

In contrast, last spring, Malaysia was widely criticized for the secrecy and paranoia that surrounded its search for a Malaysia Airlines flight that disappeared with 239 people aboard. Welcoming US and Chinese military ships into Indonesia’s orbit speaks to Joko’s confidence as a leader.

Let’s hope this is a harbinger of future competence. Joko is the fifth president since dictator Suharto was ousted in 1998 but the first true political outsider to run Southeast Asia’s biggest economy. Because he’s not a member of a dynastic family or the military, he isn’t beholden to vested interests looking to siphon the benefits of Indonesia’s 5 percent growth. That gives him latitude to dismantle the kleptocracy that Suharto built during his 32-year reign and raise Indonesia’s competitiveness.

As governor of Jakarta, starting in 2012, Joko brought a surprising level of transparency. He moved budget procurement and tax collection processes online. He’s now working to make national government services electronic to reduce opportunities for graft and improve efficiency. Opening up the process of granting licenses for developing infrastructure, mines and plantations alone would do much to clean up the nation’s political and business climate.

Indonesia’s aviation industry also has long cried out for greater oversight. Its carriers, air traffic controllers and the skies around the archipelago of 250 million people are notorious for their regulatory laxity. As recently as 2009, state carrier Garuda was banned from European Union airspace. That laxity is a product of decades of cronyism and institutional neglect.

While Joko’s predecessor Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono made inroads against graft, Indonesia’s still ranks behind Djibouti and Argentina and a sober 22 rungs below India in Transparency International’s latest corruption perceptions index. The daylight Joko wants to shine on the government is needed to attract more foreign investment and ensure that scarce revenues are spent on education, health care and poverty programs.

The openness and assertiveness with which Joko has responded to Flight QZ8501 gives me reason to hope that Indonesia will be prepared for whatever comes its way.

South Korea awaits response from North to offer of high-level talks

South Korea has offered to hold high-level talks with North Korea on various issues to pave the way for the unification of the peninsula. There was no immediate response from the North.

Deutsche Welle, 29 Dec 2014

South Korea's unification minister, Ryoo Kihl-jae told a press conference in Seoul on Monday that he was willing to meet with his North Korean counterpart in either of the countries' capitals for the rare high-level talks next month.

"I hope that the North will show an active response to this offer," Ryoo told reporters. "We are willing to discuss any issues of mutual concern," he added.

There was, however, no immediate response from the North and it wasn't clear if any response would be coming.

The last such talks were held last February and resulted in the reunions of family members separated by the division of the peninsula following the 1950-53 Korean War. Ryoo indicated that organizing a similar meeting would be high on the agenda of his proposed talks.

Koreans had emotional family
reunions in February
"We need dialogue and cooperation to implement such projects... I hope the talks will help ease the pain of the separated families before the Lunar New Year," he said, referring to a holiday observed by Koreans, which falls on February 19.

Ryoo said he also envisioned discussing a range of other issues to prepare for the unification of the country. Previous talk of unification, including by President Park Geun-hye at her last New Year's press conference, has drawn an angry response from the North, which has dismissed the idea as a plot to topple the communist regime in Pyongyang.

Talks proposal comes amid tensions

High-level talks between the two Koreas had also been planned for October, but this was followed by a renewed rise in tensions fueled by a series of minor military clashes and the meeting was cancelled.

North Korea also expressed anger over South Korean activists sending anti-Pyongyang leaflets across the border using hot-air balloons, and slammed Seoul for not doing enough to stop the practice.

Tensions between Pyongyang and Seoul's key ally, the United States are currently even more strained than usual, amid Washington's accusations that North Korea was behind a theat to cinema goers viewing the film "The Interview," which pokes fun at North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Pyongyang has denied being responsible for the threat, and has in turn accused Washington of being behind an Internet outage in the isolated nation over the past week.

Jakarta. The plight of the AirAsia Indonesia aircraft that went missing on Sunday morning has captured the attention of the world on Twitter.

Flight QZ8501, which departed from Juanda International airport in Surabaya at 5:36 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Changi International Airport at 8:30 a.m. Singapore time, lost contact with air traffic control midway through its flight over the Java Sea.

The plane is carrying 155 passengers, including 138 adults, 16 children and 1 infant — and almost all of them are Indonesian.

Following media reports AirAsia Group chief executive Tony Fernandes took to his Twitter account @tonyfernandes and asked people to “stay strong” and said that he was traveling to Surabaya.

At about 3:30 p.m., Fernandes tweeted that his thoughts were with the passengers and crew members.

The hashtag #QZ8501 quickly started trending and has been the most viewed on the microblogging network for several hours now.

Among international leaders, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong tweeted he was sorry to have received such news. The tweet received more than 1,000 retweets as of 3:32 p.m.

Lee tweeted he had contacted Indonesian President Joko Widodo, offering help in the search for the missing plane.

Malaysian Transportation Minister Liow Tiong Lai, who has been updating the public, sent his thoughts and prayers via his account @liowtionglai.

He also tweeted that the Malaysian government had set up a rescue coordination center and deployed assets to aid the search and rescue operation in coordination with the Indonesian-led effort.

Iriana Widodo, the first lady, posted on her account @IrianaJokowi, which is handled by her staff, that she hoped that the aircraft would soon be found.

She also tweeted that Joko, who is still in Papua after attending a Christmas celebration, had held a press conference where he instructed National Search and Rescue Agency, the Indonesian Armed Forces and National Police to do their best in the search.

Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla sent his prayers for the passengers and crew members onboard from his Twitter account @Pak_JK.

Former Indonesian president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, took to his Twitter account @SBYudhoyono to send his wishes to the passengers and crew members.

Construction of the largest planned tidal energy project in the world is expected to begin off the Scottish coast next month, developers have announced.

Atlantis, majority owner of the MeyGen project, said it had finalised all of the conditions required to initiate its first drawdown from financiers The Crown Estate and Scottish Enterprise.

The project has the potential to power nearly 175,000 homes through a network of 269 turbines on the seabed at Ness of Quoys in Caithness, north-east Scotland.

The company’s share price dipped on Friday but Atlantis said it “knows of no trading or operational reason to warrant this change”, particularly given the good progress it is making on MeyGen.

In an announcement to investors, Atlantis said: “The major construction and supply contractors to this iconic project have commenced design, engineering and procurement works in readiness for commencement of onshore construction at the project site in Caithness in January 2015.

“The equity investments in the project by Scottish Enterprise (through the Renewable Energy Investment Fund) and Atlantis value the MeyGen project on a post-money equity basis at over £70m.

“Onshore construction at the Ness of Quoys project site is expected to commence in January 2015, with ABB due to start construction of the onshore infrastructure for connection to the electricity transmission grid for power export.

“We believe MeyGen is the largest planned tidal energy project in the world with a capacity of almost 400MW.”

The first power to the national grid is expected to be delivered in 2016.

Each of MeyGen's AR1000 turbines stands 22.5m (73ft) tall and
weighs 1,500 tonnes

“…  4 - Energy (again)

The natural resources of the planet are finite and will not support the continuation of what you've been doing. We've been saying this for a decade. Watch for increased science and increased funding for alternate ways of creating electricity (finally). Watch for the very companies who have the most to lose being the ones who fund it. It is the beginning of a full realization that a change of thinking is at hand. You can take things from Gaia that are energy, instead of physical resources. We speak yet again about geothermal, about tidal, about wind. Again, we plead with you not to over-engineer this. For one of the things that Human Beings do in a technological age is to over-engineer simple things. Look at nuclear - the most over-engineered and expensive steam engine in existence!

Your current ideas of capturing energy from tidal and wave motion don't have to be technical marvels. Think paddle wheel on a pier with waves, which will create energy in both directions [waves coming and going] tied to a generator that can power dozens of neighborhoods, not full cities. Think simple and decentralize the idea of utilities. The same goes for wind and geothermal. Think of utilities for groups of homes in a cluster. You won't have a grid failure if there is no grid. This is the way of the future, and you'll be more inclined to have it sooner than later if you do this, and it won't cost as much….”

“... Japan

Let us talk for a moment about Japan, and then I'll close the day of messages. There are thousands of souls on my side of the veil and they're just fine, more than fine. We have spoken so often of what happens at the Wind of Birth. I told you, before they even came in, they saw the potential. I looked in their eyes. "You may not last long. You know that, don't you? You're coming into this planet and you may not be here very long. And the passing that you will have with your family will not be pleasant, if any ever are. Why would you come in anyway?" I want to tell you what they said. When a soul has the mind of God, it understands fully what generates peace and what generates energy shift. You can clearly see what generates what the planet needs the most when you are about to arrive. So they said, "We're going to be part of one of the biggest compassion events the planet has ever seen." One earthquake, one tsunami. All of those who left that day will change the earth forever. And it already has. It was the same for the last tsunami as well.

Every single one of them on my side of the veil is getting ready to come back. Many old souls were involved, and just for a moment, if they could give you any information, if they could talk to you right now, if they could speak your language and look into your eyes, they would thank you for your compassion for them and those who are left. And they would say, "Be with those family members who are still alive. Enter their hearts every day and give them peace and keep them from crying, because we're OK."

Nuclear Power Revealed

So let me tell you what else they did. They just showed you what's wrong with nuclear power. "Safe to the maximum," they said. "Our devices are strong and cannot fail." But they did. They are no match for Gaia.

It seems that for more than 20 years, every single time we sit in the chair and speak of electric power, we tell you that hundreds of thousands of tons of push/pull energy on a regular schedule is available to you. It is moon-driven, forever. It can make all of the electricity for all of the cities on your planet, no matter how much you use. There's no environmental impact at all. Use the power of the tides, the oceans, the waves in clever ways. Use them in a bigger way than any designer has ever put together yet, to power your cities. The largest cities on your planet are on the coasts, and that's where the power source is. Hydro is the answer. It's not dangerous. You've ignored it because it seems harder to engineer and it's not in a controlled environment. Yet, you've chosen to build one of the most complex and dangerous steam engines on Earth - nuclear power.

We also have indicated that all you have to do is dig down deep enough and the planet will give you heat. It's right below the surface, not too far away all the time. You'll have a Gaia steam engine that way, too. There's no danger at all and you don't have to dig that far. All you have to do is heat fluid, and there are some fluids that boil far faster than water. So we say it again and again. Maybe this will show you what's wrong with what you've been doing, and this will turn the attitudes of your science to create something so beautiful and so powerful for your grandchildren. Why do you think you were given the moon? Now you know.

This benevolent Universe gave you an astral body that allows the waters in your ocean to push and pull and push on the most regular schedule of anything you know of. Yet there you sit enjoying just looking at it instead of using it. It could be enormous, free energy forever, ready to be converted when you design the methods of capturing it. It's time.

So in closing, do you understand what you're seeing? You're seeing intelligent design, quantum energy and high consciousness. You are seeing changes in Human nature. You're seeing countries putting things together instead of separating. You are seeing those who don't want war and instead want peace, good schools for their children, safety in their streets and a say in their government. We told you it was going to happen this way. I want my partner to teach these things that I have said in his 3D lectures for awhile. Many won't be able to know these things otherwise.  …”

China and Vietnam to Address Maritime Disputes Without ‘Megaphone Diplomacy’: Xinhua

Binh Duong province on May 14, 2014. Thousands of Vietnamese set fire to foreign
factories and rampaged in industrial zones in the south of the country in an angry

Shanghai. Senior Chinese and Vietnamese officials have agreed to settle their maritime disputes without resorting to “megaphone diplomacy”, the official Xinhua news service said on Saturday.

The agency’s report follows a meeting in Hanoi on Friday between Chinese political advisor Yu Zhengsheng and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, and it comes as Beijing backs off from aggressive attempts to press its territorial claims in the South China Sea.

“Megaphone diplomacy can only trigger volatility in public opinion, which should be avoided by both sides,” the report quoted Yu as saying.

“The maritime issue is highly complicated and sensitive, which requires negotiations to manage and control differences,” he said.

Although major trading partners and sharing the same nominal commitment to communism, China and Vietnam have a long history of distrust and conflict, including a short war in 1978 when Chinese troops invaded Vietnam in response to Hanoi’s invasion of Cambodia, run at the time by the China-backed genocidal Khmer Rouge regime.

Both governments, which lay claim to revolutionary credentials of resistance to foreign invaders, must also placate their respective nationalists demanding more aggressive defense of territory.

The conflict has been aggravated in recent years as China has grown more assertive about its claims in South China Sea, which set China’s sea border hundreds of kilometers south of its land mass to hug most Vietnam’s coast.

China pressed those claims dramatically early in 2014 by placing an oil drilling rig in waters claimed by Vietnam, then confronted Vietnamese vessels attempting to approach the platform with water cannon and ramming tactics.

Vietnamese citizens reacted by trashing Chinese factories (and factories they mistook for Chinese) inside Vietnam, and the government moved to warm military ties with the US and also bought two Kilo-class attack submarines from Russia as a deterrent.

As world honours the dead, Indonesia begins tsunami memorials

Thousands of people held a memorial Thursday in Indonesia's Aceh province, the epicentre of the Indian Ocean tsunami, as the world prepared to mark a decade since a disaster that took 220,00 lives and laid waste to coastal areas in 14 countries.

On December 26, 2004 a 9.3-magnitude earthquake off Indonesia's western coast sparked a series of towering waves that wrought destruction across countries as far apart as Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Somalia.

Among the victims were thousands of foreign holidaymakers enjoying Christmas on the region's sun-kissed beaches, striking tragedy into homes around the world.

Muslim clerics, tsunami survivors and rescue workers led around 7,000 mourners gathered at Banda Aceh's black-domed Baiturrahman Grand Mosque for memorial prayers late Thursday.

Malaysian cleric Syeikh Ismail Kassim said he and several hundred compatriots attended to show support for Aceh.

"We hope Aceh people will not waver as a result of the calamity that has befallen them," he told AFP.

Aceh governor Zaini Abdullah thanked Indonesians and the international community in his address at the mosque, one of the few buildings which withstood the wrath of the massive earthquake and ensuing waves which left 170,000 people in the country dead or missing.

"The tsunami had caused deep sorrow to Aceh residents from having lost their loved ones," he said.

"Sympathy from Indonesians and the international community has helped (Aceh) to recover," he added.

He also called on residents not to "dwell in our grief, so that we could rise from adversity and achieve a better Aceh".

Kamaruddin, a fisherman who like many Indonesians goes by one name, said he attended the prayers to remember his wife and three children who died in the tsunami.

"I hope there will be no more disasters in Aceh," the 50-year-old said.

In Meulaboh, a fishing town considered to be the ground zero of the tsunami -- where 35 metre-high waves flattened almost everything -- Indonesian flags were flown at half-mast as small groups of residents held night prayers at mosques.

The main memorials were planned for Friday morning, starting in Aceh which was hit first by the waves, then moving to Thailand where candlelit ceremonies are expected in the resort hubs of Phuket and Khao Lak.

There will also be events in Sri Lanka, including at the site where a train carrying 1,500 people was washed away, as well as in several European capitals to remember foreign nationals who perished.

'Like being in a washing machine'

Many of the tsunami's victims died in dark, churning waters laden with uprooted trees, boats, cars and eviscerated beach bungalows, as the waves surged miles inland and then retreated, sucking many more into the sea.

Thailand saw 5,395 people killed by the disaster -- half of them foreign holidaymakers.

British survivor Andy Chaggar was in a bungalow on Thailand's Khao Lak when the tsunami waves struck, taking his girlfriend's life and sweeping him inland.

"I came to in the water... there was glass, metal, there were pieces of wood, bricks, it was like being in a washing machine full of nails," he told AFP on Thursday, on the same beach where he lost his girlfriend.

As the scale of the tragedy emerged, disaster-stricken nations struggled to mobilise a relief effort, leaving bloated bodies to pile up under the tropical sun or in makeshift morgues.

The world poured money and expertise into the relief and reconstruction, with more than $13.5 billion collected in the months after the disaster.

Almost $7 billion in aid went into rebuilding more than 140,000 houses across Aceh, thousands of kilometres of roads, and new schools and hospitals.

The vast majority of Indonesia's 170,000 victims perished in the province, among them tens of thousands of children.

But the disaster also ended a decades-long separatist conflict, with a peace deal between rebels and Jakarta struck less than a year later.

It also prompted the establishment of a pan-ocean tsunami warning system, made up of sea gauges and buoys, while individual countries have invested heavily in disaster preparedness.

But experts have cautioned against the perils of "disaster amnesia" creeping into communities vulnerable to natural disasters.

"Current" Events –  Apr 10, 2005 (Kryon Channelling by Lee Carroll)

“… Mass Human Death

The final one, dear Human, is the hardest one for my partner and the one we wish to leave you with in this channeling tonight. This is the one that my partner doesn't want to even have me talk about. It's the appropriateness of mass death. For you, built in to your very essence is the honor for life, and the sorrow when it passes. It's correct and appropriate that this is there, and never let it be tempered. But the wisdom of understanding is also needed to help you get past some challenges of the Human heart.

"Dear Kryon, was the tsunami really necessary?" Yes it was. Almost 200,000 Human Beings passed over. It's an event that for you is filled with horror, sorrow, emotion, and challenge. Back in 1989, we told you of those that might have to leave the earth en masse, and here it is. Yet even my partner [Lee] asks the questions, "Why the children? Why the poorest parts of the earth? Why the seeming inappropriateness of all this death?"

And I say to you the same thing I said with respect to Terri: Do you understand yet that death is often as precious as life on this planet of many energies and lessons? They are not gone! They're all here [speaking from Kryon's perspective]. They're having a great time! They're joyful! It seems like a moment ago they leaned into the wind of birth with us beside them. We said, "How would you like to participate in an event that will change the compassion factor of the planet so that energies can move forward and provide faster acceleration of vibratory shift? How would you like to help create peace on earth through a consciousness shift within Gaia itself? And they said, "Show us the way!"

Do you understand why we are in love with humanity... that you would love the earth and the Universe so much that you would go through these things? So much of what you see is horrible tragedy, yet you're looking at the heroes of humanity as they deliver a gift that will change the very fabric of Gaia through the compassion created as a wave of humanity responds to their plight.

They knew the potentials and they went through with it. Even the children knew, for they're old souls within their divinity. There was so much compassion created at that time, in that one week, the earth has never seen anything like it in your lifetime. Billions of Humans were involved with a compassion that instantly went to the core of the planet. It went into the earth and it's still there. It changed the actual energy of where you walk and it planted a seeds that will grow that will indeed emerge later in Israel, and those surrounding Israel.

And that's what it's about. Yet some of you didn't want to hear that, did you? But they're here, with me now... and with you as well. How could you fit them all in this room, you might ask? They can fit on the head of a pin! That's interdimensional talk. They can go home in your purse or your pocket! That's interdimensional talk, too. And they've got a message for you that we've given before, but you can't hear it enough: "We did our part - now you do yours, Lighthouse! For the ones who remain are the only ones who can manipulate the tools we have helped create."

When you go home tonight, you're not going to be in a survival situation - in a tent in a tribe with no lights or clean water, with no food. You're not going to be in sorrow or despair. Instead, you go home to a warm place with plenty of food and friendship and the love of family. That's why you're the Lighthouses, because you have time for it. You've got the intellect for it. You're not in survival mode, as is so much of humanity on the earth. You have the education for it and the intuition for it. Now, do you understand why there are so many Lighthworkers in the western world? It's because your culture has created a situation where there's abundance of these things, and it allows you to lead the way in changing the energy of earth, instead of having all your time spent just trying to survive. Does this help you understand the responsibility of what you have before you?

Strike the light and send it to the Sudanese. Strike light and send it to those dark places with governments where there's corruption. Strike the light and send it to the scientists and researchers who already have the cures for the more virulent diseases on the planet, but can't begin their work due to the barriers of certain leadership and their old ways. Strike the light and send it to Israel and Palestine and get on with this solution! This is why you're here, and this is the agreement you made when you arrived and selected the culture you live in.

Achievable in your lifetime, it is. Peace and compassion will prevail. You shall see. You shall see.

And so it is.

Ling Jihua's wife planned to flee to Japan but was arrested

Gu Liping, the wife of recently disgraced Chinese official Ling Jihua, has been arrested in Qingdao, Shandong province, on Wednesday, reports our Chinese-language sister paper China Times.

Gu was arrested while attempting to flee to Japan.

She was arrested after meeting with Li You, the CEO of tech conglomerate Founder Group, at the Lakeview Hotel in Beijing, according to overseas Chinese-language news outlet Mingjing News. The group has been a major source of funding for the Xishan Club, a clandestine organization exclusive to senior officials and wealthy businesspeople born in Shanxi that Ling established in 2007.

The club met once every three months and participating officials reportedly bought and sold positions during the meeting.

Li is rumored to have managed to evade arrest with help from the Chinese mafia. Before police showed up, he was said to have been discussing with Gu how to destroy evidence of the illicit organization's existence and planned to offer her a Japanese ID card and residency permit.

She was hired as chairperson, general manager and as a consultant by multiple IT companies reportedly due to her influential husband. Gu is also said to have used Youth Business China, the non-profit organization she founded in 2003 as a channel through which to launder money and to allow her an escape plan in the event the club was discovered. Gu was found to own two luxury houses worth US$500 million in total in Japan.

Since the existence of the Xishan Club was uncovered, multiple senior officials, such as former railway minister Liu Zhijun, have been investigated and sacked. Ling Jihua, who was head of the Communist Party of China's United Front Work Department and vice chairperson of the National Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, has been investigated for suspected serious disciplinary violations.

Man in Taiwan seeks constitutional verdict on his same-sex union

A man in Taiwan said Wednesday that he plans to seek a constitutional interpretation of a case in which he has been seeking recognition of his same-sex union in the country since the 1980s.

The decision by Chi Chia-wei, who also calls himself Dayway Chief, came two days after a committee in the Legislature began a second review of a marriage equality bill.

Joining a wave of recent calls for the legalization of same-sex unions in Taiwan, Chi announced his decision at a press conference that was attended by other LGBTIQ rights activists and his lawyers in front of the Judicial Yuan.

He told CNA that he and his lawyers are likely to file for a constitutional interpretation of the legal status of his marriage next January after they have prepared the relevant documents.

Chi dismissed some of the common arguments against marriage equality by saying that members of the LGBTIQ community have been clinically proven to be just as "normal" as anyone else, and that marriage is a normal thing. "Why can't normal people be allowed to do normal things?" he said.

Chien Chih-chieh, secretary-general of the Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights, said LGBTIQ rights group have high expectations for the Judicial Yuan.

"We hope the Justices of the Constitutional Court, as gatekeepers of the Constitution, can stand on the high level of the Constitution and give equal rights back to gay and lesbian couples," Chien said.

The union between Chi and his partner began with a ceremony in Taipei in 1988. Since then, they have been pursuing several legal channels to have their union recognized in Taiwan as a legal marriage.

In March last year, he and his partner tried to register their marriage at the Wanhua district household registration office in Taipei but their application was turned down. They then lodged an administrative appeal with the Taipei city government but that was also rejected.

Chi subsequently filed a complaint with the Taipei High Administrative Court, which ruled in March this year that the Wanhua office had not violated the law when it refused to register the union.

Undeterred, Chi took the case to the Supreme Administrative Court, but his appeal was rejected in September.

Victoria Hsu, a lawyer and chief executive officer of the Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights, called Chi's decision to seek a constitutional interpretation an "important moment in history," as Taiwan's Justices of the Constitutional Court have never issued a direct interpretation on same-sex marriage.

She said she hopes the application for a constitutional interpretation will force the Justices of the Constitutional Court to handle the human rights issue head-on.

She stressed that marriage equality is now legal in at least 16 countries and in 35 states in the United States, calling it an international human rights trend.
